The 6 points of the checklist
Each point has a quick way to check it. If one is not met, you know where to start.
-
Each asset has a unique code or tag
How to check it: pick ten assets at random and look them up in the register by code. Can you find them all?
-
Each asset has an assigned owner
How to check it: take one area and ask: can you say within a minute who is in charge of each piece of equipment?
-
You did a recent physical count and it was recorded who verified it
How to check it: it must show the date, who counted and what was found for each asset.
-
You know what is damaged or in another location
How to check it: assets that are not where the register says they are have been identified, with a note on what happened.
-
Depreciation is set up according to your regulations
How to check it: review the method and useful life of each asset category with whoever keeps your accounting.
This is a reference, not accounting advice.
-
Maintenance is recorded
How to check it: date, cost and person in charge of each maintenance job, at hand if the auditor asks for them.
